A good share of this work is on units somebody else delivered, or units a business bought outright. It is a straightforward service call and it does not require switching your rental to us.
Businesses that own their units. Yards, farms, marinas, campgrounds and recreation properties often buy rather than rent, then find that owning the unit does not solve the pumping. That is what this service is for.
Rentals from another supplier. If your existing supplier's service is not keeping up, we can pump on a schedule alongside their rental. It is your unit's condition that matters, not whose name is on the side.
Event units. A multi-day festival or a long event sometimes needs a mid-run service that was not in the original rental. We do those as one-off calls.
What we need to know before quoting: how many units, where they are, how the truck reaches them, and how often you want them done. Access is the variable that decides whether this is simple or not, exactly as it is on a rental.
Why a unit smells when it has just been pumped
This is the most common call we get, and pumping more often is usually the wrong answer. There are three real causes.
A blocked or damaged vent. Every unit has a vent stack that lets the tank breathe and carries odour up and out rather than into the cabin. Blocked with debris, cracked, or missing its cap and it stops working. The unit will smell no matter how recently it was emptied. This is a repair, not a service interval problem.
A failed tank seal. The seal between the bowl and the holding tank degrades over time, especially on units that have been in service for years. Once it goes, odour comes straight up. Also a repair.
Placement. Full sun with no airflow will make an adequately serviced unit unpleasant by mid-afternoon in July. Heat drives odour out of the tank faster than the vent can clear it. Moving the unit into shade or somewhere with a breeze fixes this permanently and costs nothing.
All three get checked on our service visits, because a unit that keeps generating complaints is a unit somebody is going to stop using. If the answer is a repair or a relocation rather than more pumping, we will say so instead of selling you extra visits that will not fix it.
One thing worth knowing about the waste itself: portable toilet waste is regulated and goes to a licensed treatment facility. That disposal is a real part of what a service call costs, and it is not a step anyone should be cutting to come in cheaper.
Where this work comes from in Lake County
Service-only calls come from across Lake County and usually from one of three places. Businesses that bought their own units — yards in Waukegan and North Chicago, farms out west, marinas and campgrounds along the lake and the chain — and then discovered that owning the unit did not solve the pumping. Event organisers running a multi-day festival who need a mid-run service that was not in the original rental. And property managers who inherited units with a building and have no idea who supplied them. None of that requires switching a rental to us. We are based in Zion and Waukegan is the main stop on our route, so northern Lake County gets the most flexible scheduling on service-only work, but we run the whole county. What decides whether a service call is simple is the same thing that decides it on a rental: whether the truck can get within reach of the unit with a clear line for the hose.

What does a service visit include?
Pumping the holding tank, flushing and sanitizing the interior surfaces, restocking toilet paper, refilling sanitizer, and a check of the door latch, the vent and the tank seal. That last part is what stops small problems becoming callouts.
How often should a unit be pumped?
Weekly for a crew of ten or fewer using it through the day. Twice weekly above that. A unit on a low-traffic property can go longer, but the interval is about smell and hygiene as much as capacity — a tank that is not full can still need service.
Where does the waste actually go?
To a licensed treatment facility. Portable toilet waste is regulated and cannot be discharged anywhere else. That disposal is part of what a service visit costs and it is not a step anyone should be cutting.
The unit smells even after service. Why?
Usually one of three things: the vent is blocked, the tank seal has failed, or the unit is in full sun with no airflow. The first two are repairs. The third is placement, and moving the unit to shade or somewhere with a breeze fixes it more reliably than more frequent pumping.
Do you do emergency or same-day pumping?
Where the schedule allows. A tank that has filled faster than expected before a weekend is a common call. Ring rather than waiting for the next scheduled day.
